FORMER RESIDENT KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

A 39 year old former resident is dead after the private plane in which she was a passenger crashed while landing at a Springfield, Illinois, airport early Sunday might. The pilot, a St Louis physician and co-worker of the woman, was also killed.

DELORES JANE ELLSWORTH, was pronounced dead as a result of injuries she sustained when the pilot, Dr. Arthur J. Meagher, for no apparent reason, aborted his landing and the plane crashed one and one-fourth mile past the end of the runway.

According to the Sangamon county Sheriff's Department, the Cessna 320, en route from Alpena to St Louis, Mo., was landing at the airport because of a change in flight pattern over Indianap9lis due to adverse weather conditions at St Louis.

The airport control tower had radio contact with the pilot until the final clearance for landing was granted. The plane was preparing to land and then the course of flight was changed. Sheriff's deputies said they believe the craft was low on fuel because there was no fire following the crash.

The Federal Aviation Authority will conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
