1637 Edmond Freeman settles Sandwich (Shawme). The community was incorporated in 1639. Years later, Freeman and his son-in-law William PADDY were involved in land deals with Arthur Howland, apparently in the Marshfield region. Sandwich lay far to the south of Plymouth, however, while Marshfield lay to the north. This fact indicates the problems involved in attempting to determine solial circles based on residential proximity - people were apparently involved in deals over a wide space of land.
