Item 1.Cornelius Ellis died as a result of being kicked of a horse on 21 February 1807.
He appears to be the Cornelius Ellis who served as a private in Capt. Job Pierce's company,
Col. Theophilus Cotton's regiment; pay roll for Oct 1777, dated Middleborough; service 30 days,
at Rhode Island. He bought from his brother, Joseph, as administrator of their father's estate,
23 June 1791, a tract of land in Middleborough bordered by that of his sister-in-law, Hannah Bryant,
which had belonged to his granfather, Capt. Joel 3 Ellis. He is described as "Cornelius Ellis of
Middleborough, cordwainer." He is listed in the 1790 census as the head of a Middleborough
family of one male over 16, two under 16 and eight females. Children's births recorded in
Middleborough, dates shown but most of the names are illegible.
