"David T. Ellis, for many years a resident of Bridgeport, Conn., died Oct. 26,
1909, after an illness extending over seven years and which was direct
attributable to vaccination.
Mr. Ellis was born in Petersham Oct. 22, 1836, his parents moving to Ware
when he was quite young. His first attendance at New Salem Academy was
during the winter of 1856. He was there at different times for three years.
Part of the year he taught in New Braintree and Hardwick. During his attendance
at the Academy he taught classes in higher mathematics. From New Salem he
went to Comers Institute in Boston.
Mr. Ellis was connected with the Belknap Manufacturing Co. of Bridgeport for a
number of years as Head Bookkeeper. Later he engaged as a traveling salesman
with the Smith & Egge Co.
In 1861 Mr. Ellis married Marion I. Pierce of Prescott, who survives him. There
were no children. The funeral was held at his late home, 1607 Fairfield Ave.,
Bridgeport, with burial at Ware. The body was accompanied to that place by a
delegation of Knights Templar, of which order the deceased was a member.
Mr. Ellis was a frequent visitor of New Salem as long as his health permitted.
He always planned his visits to be present at the reunion."
